So, fans of stories of love and hate, it’s only a week until the fabulous party to end them all, and here are some details of what you can expect.

With every ticket will come a chance for amazing Door Prizes — gift cards for free groceries and a fantastic Edmonton pub, lovely bath and beauty products — “smelly stuff” as our Cupid would say! — and a few fascinating handmade fascinators are all up for grabs.

For the Silent Auction we have pole dance lessons from Venus herself, the beautiful Nicole Grainger, plus a dance lesson from our ultra-cool colleague Gino Akbari, and a professional photo shoot.  Each will be available to the highest bidder.

And don’t forget the best 50 / 50 draw, ever.  What makes it so great?  Buy enough tickets, and you get a HUG.

And then, of course, there’s our LIVE SHOW.  Members of the magnificent Capital City Burlesque Troupe, songs by our own Nicole and Maria, and enticing previews of both Stories.  Tickets available at the door, $10.  Ten bucks!  And Doug can vouch for HOW GOOD the Guinness is.  So join the party at the Irish Club, June 15.  Doors will open at      7 pm, show begins at 8!

Double bill ANNOUNCED

This summer, Take a Bite presents Stories of Love & Hate, a double-bill of superconcentrated one-act plays:  A Hate Story, written by Heather Morrow, and A Love Story, by Maria Colonescu.

In A Hate Story, Venus, now a burlesque dancer, and her lovelorn son Cupid, an archery instructor, receive a visit from an old friend, St. Valentine.  The three recall how the most saccharine of holidays came about—through war.  And torture.  And, yes, true love.

Then A Love Story – in which Isabelle and Chloe loved Jeff…after all, he was Isabelle’s brother and Chole’s fiance. Jeff was killed by a drunk driver and the two women want revenge. But is this drunk driver the problem for the two, or something between them?

Come see how sexy, violent, and absurd both love and hate can really be!

new shows for Edmonton Fringe 2012!

Hello again!

We’re putting Take a Bite on hold for the moment while deciding where and when is the best place to relaunch it.  But in the meantime…Take a Bite productions is getting ready for summer 2012!

This Edmonton Fringe, we’ll be doing a double-bill — two one acts, one right after the other!

First, we have A Hate Story.  The very first version of this script was performed for a drama class project at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh in the spring of 2007 (it was directed by Lorna Dalgarno, who, later that year, directed the world premiere production of Take a Bite.)  In February of this year, a brand new production was launched at StageStruck, the 2012 ADFA One-Act Play Festival in Edmonton.  One performance — and one award! — later, the cast and crew of the new A Hate Story agreed to take on the Edmonton Fringe with it.  So, here we go.

Plans for a party to promote the show and its sister play (tba) are underway.  Let the madness begin!

Sending our baby out into the world…

That’s a bit grand, but we’re very proud of it.

We got together a couple of weeks ago to discuss possibly taking Take a Bite on the road — on a Fringe tour — next summer.  To be away from that home, not knowing for sure if even our fantastic show would break even…considering how big it is.  Yes, our two-hander is huge for a Fringe show.  We decided that wasn’t the way to go.

So, instead, we’re going to sell the production we have to some amazing theatres in Canada.  That is in progress now.  Heather came up with a proposal, Amy’s proofed it and this coming week…away Take a Bite and its amazing publicity will go, from Vancouver to Nova Scotia.  Very, very excited to hear what everyone says.
