Photos from #Chile : #Andes Mountains.

My flatmate Ileana, from Mexico, and her best friend in Chile, Hector, invited me to go on a day trip to the Andes on Saturday.

YES.

Rio Mapocho, which goes to Santiago.

Deciduous trees, not pine, like in the Rockies.

As we went higher, there were fewer trees…

…until there were NONE.

Abandoned mining camp.

I mean…come on.

There’s apparently an extraordinary view into another valley higher up, but it was Easter weekend, and this is as far as we got!

On the way back down.

This is the town of San Jose, in the national park San Jose Y Maipo. Kind of like Banff.

There was a huge festival and craft sale on for Easter.

Photos of #Chile : Cerro Santa Lucia, the most beautiful park I’ve ever seen.

Maybe one day I’ll have enough Spanish to adequately describe this place. Charles Darwin gave it the high praise of “certainly most striking.”
